This week's joys ❄️

The winter solstice arrives this Sunday, the darkest day of the year. It's also a turning point, when the light begins to return. While our culture observes the new year on January 1st, many cultures (both ancient and modern) use the solstice to mark the turning of the new year. For me, that makes much more sense- to follow the natural marking of that turning point. Which means that the winter solstice is potent time to set intentions for our next trip around the sun.

In this dark, quiet, fertile ground of the winter solstice- what seeds do you want to plant? What do you want to bring forth in the coming year?

This week’s joys:

On Sunday, we awoke to our first snow at the new house. It was beautiful. The world felt hushed. Snow lined every limb of our bare trees and layed in mounds on the evergreens. It was magical.

Remember the squirrel who had taken over our new bird feeder? Well, she's a mama! I discovered several baby squirrels searching for food in the snow covered ground on Tuesday. So, obviously I raced out and sprinkled birdseed on the ground and refilled the feeder. Early yesterday morning I watched as four of them played in the big tree beside our garage, their little silhouettes jumping from branch to branch.

P.S. If you could use some support in slowing down as the holidays approach, I invite you to check out my eMbodied Membership. Inside, I share the tools I use to help me slow down and ground. These online classes are short and accessible: Yoga for all levels, meditation and pranayama (breathwork). You just open your laptop or phone and press play.

You can wake up, stay cozy in your pjs, and get in a practice before you've even brushed your teeth. Because each practice is 30 mins or less, you can even squeeze one into any part of your day.
