This week's joys 🐿️
|
Just look out the window and you’ll see proof that winter is a time to slow down. Like the trees, plants and animals, Mother Nature has cued us to go inward, conserve our energy, and nourish our roots for future growth. Okay, but… (I know, I know) There are still things to do- things that need to be done and things you want to do. Same. But could you do it slower, less rushed? Are there some things you can say “no” or “not right now” to? Probably. I've been doing things slower lately. Being more intentional in the things I'm doing. And noticing. The noticing is big. It's what allows me to stay with what I'm experiencing, comfortable or not, and be fully in it. It's also what allows me to keep seeing the little joys that are sprinkled throughout my day, even when (especially when) things are difficult. This week’s joys: Patrick’s mom and stepdad gifted me a birdfeeder when they visited last month. Now, it’s not your typical birdfeeder- it has a camera on it that will send notifications and pictures to my phone of its visitors. Kinda like a ring camera but instead of delivery drivers, I get images of pretty birds. So far, the many blue jays that frequent our yard are big fans. And, apparently so are the squirrels. On Wednesday, I came out of a session to 41 notifications on my phone. This furry little cutie pie was the culprit. Patrick has been on a quest to perfect his lasagna recipe. Each Sunday for the past two weeks, he's made a lasagna- tweaking his recipe to get it just right. Which means we have at least one day a week where we aren't asking each other, "what do you wanna do for dinner?" So far, both times have been delicious, but he insists it could be better. Stella and I help by hanging out, staying out of the way, and assisting with clean up. 🤍 Courtney P.S. My yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices are the tools I use to help me slow down and be more present. If you'd like to see if they'd work for you, check out my eMbodied Membership. Inside, I offer short accessible classes: Yoga for all levels to help you settle into and move your body. Meditation and breathwork for sleepy mornings or overwhelmed afternoons. You just open your laptop or phone, roll out your mat, and press play. I love that I can wake up, stay cozy in my pjs, and get in a practice before I’ve even brushed my teeth.
