This week's joys

Hey there, friend.

Quick note: If you’re new around here or simply missed the email that started this weekly joy ritual of mine, you can read it here.

My favorite band, Florence + The Machine, ask in their song, Free:

"Is this how it is?

Is this how it's always been?

To exist in the face of suffering and death,

And somehow still keep singing."

I think that it's simply what it means to be human (or really, to simply exist). To find ways to hold both- the despair and the joy. To not lean too far into one as to ignore the other.

Here are the joys I've allowed myself to fully experience this week. The things that have kept me from leaning too far into the fire:

Patrick and I went to see Adam Sandler last weekend. Laughter is always good medicine. I was delighted that Adam brought on some of his comedian friends- Sam Morril, Fortune Feimster, Kevin Nealon, and Kevin James. My cheeks were aching by the end of the night!

I spent my Monday morning on the back porch- sipping my coffee, listening to the birdsong, and re-starting my journaling practice. I love beginning the week slowly and intentionally.

A few of the young hummingbirds are still hanging around our feeders- receiving the nourishment they need before making their long migration to Central America. They're beginning to feel as comfortable with me as their elders did and have been hovering closer and closer to check me out. Their curiosity makes me smile!

Have a beautiful weekend. I hope you find some balance in holding all it means to be human.

Sending love,

Courtney

P.S. Have you checked out the free yoga, meditation, and breathwork practices inside Courtney Lewis Wellness Self-Care Practice Library yet? I created these short practices (30 mins or less) to help you slow down, tend to your nervous system, and "somehow still keep singing." 🤍
